Coaching for Kids & Teens
This program goes beyond traditional medical treatment by addressing the mind-body connection, emotional regulation, and lifestyle adjustments to help young individuals live fuller, more comfortable lives despite pain.
Initial Parent & Child Consultation (60 Minutes)
- A comprehensive assessment with both the parent and the child/teen.
- Discussion of the child’s pain history, medical background, and emotional impact.
- Introduction to the mind-body approach in pain management.
- Setting expectations and determining goals for coaching.
- Guidance on how parents can support their child’s journey.
Core Coaching Sessions (6 to 10 Sessions Recommended)
- Each session lasts 45–60 minutes and is customized to the child’s needs. Dr. Carullo works one-on-one with the child/teen, while parents may receive follow-up guidance.
1-2: Understanding Pain & the Brain’s Role
- Explaining how the brain interprets pain.
- Identifying pain triggers and emotional connections.
- Teaching simple relaxation techniques to reduce pain intensity.
3-4: Mind-Body Strategies for Pain Management
- Introduction to breathing techniques, guided imagery, and meditation.
- Learning how movement (gentle stretching, yoga) can help.
- Exploring biofeedback and mindfulness to reframe pain perception.
5-6: Building Emotional Resilience
- Addressing anxiety, frustration, and fear associated with chronic pain.
- Teaching self-regulation techniques for emotional well-being.
- Developing a personalized pain coping toolkit.
7-8: Lifestyle & Behavioral Adjustments
- Strategies for improving sleep, nutrition, and daily routines.
- Creating a balance between activity and rest.
- How to communicate pain needs to teachers, friends, and family.
7-8: Long-Term Pain Management & Independence
- Reviewing progress and reinforcing learned techniques.
- Creating a long-term action plan for managing flare-ups.
- Instilling confidence in the child to advocate for their health needs.
